Collagen supplement experiences

Collagen supplements now come in all shapes and sizes: collagen tablets, collagen powders, collagen drinks… This can cause a lot of confusion. In this article we would like to explain how collagen works, what types of collagen supplements there are and what the collagen supplement experiences are, both from science and from practice. Hopefully, these experiences with collagen will help you make a choice.

What is collagen and what does collageen do?

Before we go into more detail about how collagen works and about our experiences with collagen supplements, let us first list a few facts about collagen:

  • Collagen is an important glue-forming protein in our body. After the age of 25, our bodies produce less and less collagen, which triggers the natural ageing process.
  • Collagen provides elasticity and strength to all our connective tissues, including skin, tendons, joints, cartilage, bones, as well as hair and nails.
  • Collagen has over 28 types, of which type 1 and type 2 collagen are the most important. 90% of all collagen present is type 1 collagen.
  • Collagen can be obtained from various natural sources such as fish, animals and plants.
  • Fish collagen is the purest form of collagen. Its structure is similar to that of human skin.

What does science say about the effect of collagen?

The popularity of collagen within the cosmetic market is enormous. But what does science actually say about collagen?

There are several scientific studies on the effect of collagen in combination with vitamin C. Vitamin C is the building block of collagen.

  1. Blood vessels: Vitamin C contributes to the formation of collagen, which is important for a good condition of the blood vessels, the maintenance of a strong vessel wall and smooth veins.
  2. Bones: Vitamin C is important for the formation of collagen, which is important for bones.
  3. Cartilage: Vitamin C contributes to the normal formation of collagen for the normal functioning of cartilage.
  4. Skin: Vitamin C contributes to the formation of collagen that helps to strengthen the skin from within, supports the condition of the skin and supports the firmness of the skin.
  5. Connective tissue of the skin: Vitamin C is important for the formation of collagen, which is important for the connective tissue of the skin.
  6. Mouth and teeth: Vitamin C contributes to the formation of collagen which supports the condition of the gums.

Experience of experts

In the article ‘Collagen on prescription from the doctor’, Dr Noor van den Boom shares her experiences with collagen:

Dr Noor van den Boom: As a medical professional, I was able to see the effects of these supplements with my own eyes for 30 days. I am extremely surprised by the results I am already experiencing! As mentioned, for an optimal result it is important to use the supplements daily for at least two consecutive months. In short, do you want an efficient and scientific way to protect and improve your skin, hair and nail condition? Then I would definitely recommend the collagen supplement by Skin for Skin as a care professional.

There are also many beauticians who recognize the importance of collagen and therefore offer collagen supplements in their beauty salons. Read their collagen experiences here.

Different kinds of collagen supplements

We now know what collagen is, what collagen does, what collagen is good for and what types of collagen there are, but which collagen supplement should you choose?

As described above, fish collagen is the purest form of collagen. This is because the structure of fish collagen is similar to that of humans. In addition, fish collagen from wild-caught fish contains no added antibiotics, growth hormones or food intended for fish farming or animal breeding. But did you know that there are also differences within fish collagen? We distinguish two types here:

hydrolysed collagen

Hydrolysed collagen uses heat, chemicals or acids to extract the collagen from the skin of the fish. This breaks down the structure of the collagen and you need a larger amount to experience results (often several grams). This form of collagen is often incorporated into collagen powders or collagen tablets, and you often need several tablets or scoops of powder per day to experience effects.

Native collagen

Native collagen is extracted from the skin of fish without heat, chemicals or acids, leaving the collagen structure intact. As a result, you need less collagen to experience results (from 40 mg). This form of collagen is very powerful, so you can already experience results with 1 pill a day. Obtaining native collagen is a patented process. Therefore, Skin for Skin’s fish collagen supplement is the only native collagen supplement on the market.

The effect of native collagen

Because the structure of native collagen is completely intact, enzymes can easily absorb the collagen. The enzymes in the stomach cut up proteins for further transport and absorption.

What are the results of native collagen?

In the skin, collagen is responsible for firmness and elasticity. The skin scan below shows that after using Skin for Skin collagen, only after five days, the collagen level in the skin has visibly increased. The green dots represent our connective tissue/collagen fibres. The white dots show our collagen, blue hyaluronic acid and red and yellow are cell activity renewal. The result? A firmer, fuller, hydrated and radiant skin!

Collagen supplement experiences of customers

We have previously shared the collagen supplement experiences of doctor Drs. Noor van den Boom and skin specialist Marina Kroon, but what are the collagen supplement experiences of people who use our collagen supplement daily?

Rena: I have been using this product for a few years now and wouldn’t want to be without it. My hair has become a lot thicker and my skin smoother. But what I like most is that I hardly have any pain in my shoulder and hip because of osteoarthritis.

Madeleine Jonkers: My hair and skin have become so much more beautiful and better after using collagen from skin for skin. Beautiful and good Dutch product!

Nelleke: Great product 🤩 my skin looks much smoother and my frown has completely disappeared. Also my weak ankle is much less bothering me now.

Manuelle: Big fan of this product from the beginning. Strong nails, shiny and calm skin. I hardly need to apply any oil. No more flakes. The sebum production on my scalp is also reduced. Capsules are easy to swallow.

Mary: The first product of Skin for Skin that I have used for more than 2 years now. I don’t want to be without it anymore, so many benefits I experience from taking collagen! Even if it is only those nasty cold sores that I don’t have any more! (I learned from the team: lysine is the magic word, and it is in their collagen!) Very satisfied.

Disclaimer: This is only some of the experiences of Skin for Skin collagen users. You can read more experiences on this page. The experiences are not scientific claims about the product.
