The cause of stress-induced hair loss is the production of cortisol. Cortisol increases the production of adrenaline, which, when accumulated in the sebaceous glands, causes an overproduction of lactic acid. Too much lactic acid in turn harms your hair, causing hair loss.

Stress occurs when your body is asked to make an effort and produces adrenaline. If this exertion lasts for a long time, we speak of stress. A physical effort breaks down adrenaline, but during a period of stress this does not happen. So the adrenaline accumulates. It does this mainly in the scalp, as this is where the blood circulation is relatively weak. Adrenaline enters the sebaceous glands and causes an overproduction of lactic acid.

Lactic acid attacks your hair and causes hair loss due to stress. Hair cuticles can come loose, your hair becomes thinner, the hair root is affected and your hair falls out or blocks the growth of new hair.
