What is a collagen shortage?

A collagen deficiency is caused by the fact that after the age of 25, our body produces less and less collagen. In addition, there are several causes for a collagen deficiency, such as: the sun, smoking, sugar, free radicals and environmental factors. When we have a collagen deficit the natural ageing process starts. After the age of 25, the quantity and production of collagen decreases by approximately 1% per year. In the menopause, this decrease increases by a further 30%. As our bodies make less and less collagen, a shortage occurs and the body starts to age.
